View DetailsUdawalawe safari from Mirissa is the classic south-coast day trip — 2.5 hours along the expressway lands you at a park with wild elephants in every direction and almost no crowds compared to Yala. We take care of pickup, entry, jeep, and naturalist guide.
Mirissa → Matara → Hambantota → Thanamalvila → Udawalawe
From Mirissa the route runs along the southern expressway through Matara and Hambantota before heading inland via Thanamalvila to Udawalawe. Traffic is light before dawn, so early-morning transfers typically take 2.5 hours or less.
Morning safari is the strongest choice from Mirissa. Couples combining a whale-watching boat trip with a safari typically do whales on day one, safari on day two — the 4 AM wake-ups back to back are brutal.
Hotel pickup is included from anywhere in Mirissa, Weligama, Unawatuna, or Ahangama. We'll confirm a pre-dawn pickup window with you the evening before. The driver is the same throughout the day, so luggage stays in the vehicle if you're continuing onward.
All tours include hotel pickup, park entry, private jeep, and licensed guide.

View DetailsAbout 115 km. With an early start on the southern expressway the drive is around 2.5 hours door-to-park-gate.
Udawalawe is closer, much less crowded, and has a higher elephant-sighting rate. Yala has leopards but is famously over-touristed — most of our Mirissa-based guests now pick Udawalawe for the day trip and save Yala for a longer overnight if they specifically want to try for leopards.
Yes — we coordinate with the Mirissa whale-watching boats and plan the safari for the next day (or two days later if you'd like a rest day on the beach).
Pickup is typically 3:30 AM so you reach the park gate for 6:00 AM opening. For evening safaris the pickup is around 11:00 AM for a 2:00 PM park entry.
